History & Background

Every great institution is built upon dedication, perseverance, and vision
our journey began with all three.

The Indonesian Muslim University, commonly known as UMI, established its Faculty of Medicine which was first initiated in 1984. On April 16, 1986, based on UMI Rector’s Decree No. 1381/H.20/UMI/IV/1986, a special committee was formed to prepare for the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine.

After six years of persistent effort, the committee achieved remarkable success with the issuance of the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, through the Directorate General of Higher Education (No. 270/DIKTI/KEP/1992), officially approving the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University, following a recommendation from the Health Sciences Consortium.

The Faculty of Medicine was officially founded on June 8, 1992. At the beginning of its academic activities, the UMI Faculty of Medicine (FK UMI) had only 45 students. However, along with its development, FK UMI is now capable of accommodating approximately 1,500 students each year, both in the pre-clinical (academic) and clinical (professional) stages. FK UMI became the 13th member of the Council of Indonesian Private Medical Faculties (MKFSI) among 16 private medical faculties in Indonesia, and is also a member of AIPKI (Association of Indonesian Medical Education Institutions).

Its strategic location—both geographically and economically—along with having its own main teaching hospital (RS Ibnu Sina) situated directly opposite the UMI campus, provides the Faculty of Medicine with excellent prospects for developing clinical skills, fostering early exposure to clinical issues, and delivering primary healthcare services in the future.
